flash fiction

My paws are sore from all this loping around the country side. I howled to my mother earlier. A mother's worry is more than a grown she-wolf can take! But then, I do the same with my cub. The long dawn approaches and I know that soon I will be howling for Charlie to come to be by my side. He and I have some business to attend. A lone wolf has been detected at our boundaries and I hope it will become another forgettable conquest. I still carry scars from my last 'unforgettable' encounter. There is little chance I'll grow fat with this constant surveillance. I glide through the undergrowth barely making any noise. Charlie is just up ahead. He's a tundra wolf having travelled long distance to find safety. He hasn't told us his story yet but he whimpers in his sleep. He told me in private he'd lived on critter crunchies for a time (grasshoppers and such – yuk). A least now he was safe from what he called 'Class 666'. They sounded evil but Charlie will tell me in his own good time.
